Get preapproved by a reputable lender. Try your bank , ask friends or ask your real estate agent. You can ask friends who have used a lender before what was their experiences with lenders.
You Realtor may be able to to help. Having worked with several mortgage brokers. Your Realtor knows these brokers but they dont share your personal information so the feedback you give about the lender helps the Realtor know how things are going with the lender. Keep your Realtor in the loop.
Your lender should be willing to give you preapproval, answer questions, and make suggestions that will help you make a better candidate for a loan, provide you with an estimate of your costs and the amount of cash you need to buy a house. If the lender seems too busy for you and your concerns.. run. Find another lender.
