Summer is my favorite time of year! I love the sun, the warmth ( though these days I am not so sure about that one) and the beautiful colors of the flowers.
Spring and summer are the seasons when most people choose to buy or sell a home and many choose to make repairs… that includes those maintenance items which we postponed or things that broke.
If you are a handy person, the cost of repairs is limited to the cost of the materials; you supply the labor. So, maintenance issues are a breeze if you have some skills.
Those of us who are not handy may not have any idea of what it costs to make repairs and we sometimes get bids for repairs that seem outlandish. You may even be tempted to swallow and pay because you don’t have any time to shop around. Here is a list of 10 common repairs and what you should expect to pay for them. At least you will have an idea of what to expect.
The old-fashioned method is to ask friends or to ask your Realtor for recommendations for repair people.
In all cases, you must ask questions and you must be clear about your needs. If you are unsure about the skill of the person you are considering, ask for a reference – someone with whom they worked before – and be sure to call references before you hire. It’s always a good thing to check references.
You want to have some assurance that your job, however small, will be completed in a professional manner for a fair price.
